Listen, I am all in favor of patriotism and supporting the red, white, and blue. BUT...there is one thing that people should NOT do to show their support.
Never let your friends convince you that you've got a good voice. Don't let them tell you that. Ever! Under any circumstance.
Now granted, most individuals would choose not to sing the National Anthem at a sporting event, regardless what level. Unless, you have friends who are liars.
A girl just performed the National Anthem at our women's basketball game, and sight unseen, she might have thought she was Whitney Houston (pre-cocaine).
It was delusional at best. Pitchy the whole time. And extremely too long.
You know what? Good for her. She's got balls to sing in front of a crowd.
I'm gonna be less critical in 2011.

Less critical in 2011??? Good luck! ;)
(and for the record...I think we've all been there and agree - or at least by "all" I mean...myself)
hello-
found you thru BON...did you know you were a blog of note?
anywho...decided that i would tag along for the ride and see what happens...
i loved your last line about being critical...i tried that once, but it was just too difficult...the world is filled with people begging to be criticized

I know what you mean! Thankfully I know full well that if I were to sing in public at that magnitude, I'd be arrested for cruel and unusual punishment under the Geneva Convention!
And my friends would never lie to me, it's actually a running joke with us, and I'm fine with that!
I can completely understand the dichotomy of thinking "Wow, you have balls, I'm impressed", and "WHAT ARE YOU THINKING THIS IS POSSIBLY KILLING ANGELS!"
Good for her though.
Good for her and her bad friends. Everyone has those people who give them terrible advice, but it takes a smart person to figure out who those imbeciles are.
And yes Bruce, people beg to be criticized.
