Sorry for the myriad of posts today, lots going on.
Lindsay found me the Duke game on television. Couldn't find it for the life of me, said it was on MSG+2, which I didn't even know was a channel. Turns out, channel 414 on Cablevision is iOSPH.
Too bad Duke looks like shit, as does watching the game in non-HD. I used to be no big deal when this whole HD thing wasn't even a blip on the radar. It's so dark and grainy, and Duke hasn't scored a point this half - this refereeing crew are horseshit.
The channel keeps losing sound as well. Then I got the colored bars, typically found during a programming test.
LET'S GO! Two big baskets - Curry for a long two and Singler from deep. Curry fouled, shooting three. I'm a huge Duke fan in case you didn't know, and I've gotten away from posting about them, there's just too many other things to write about. I see and hear lots of crazy stuff everyday and then put it I to blog form before I forget it - because ultimately (and relatively quickly) I'll forget it. I need memory pills. It's weird, I do crossword puzzles and love puzzle games, but nothing seems to help my ailing memory. I take lots of pictures too, they help out in a pinch.
Back to the game. Let's Go Duke!
Added to post title. They're up 5 now after putting together an 11-0 run.

Asomugha Out in Oakland
The Raiders will most likely be without the best cornerback in the NFL, Nnamdi Asomugha if there's an NFL season this year. He allowed 13 completions for 205 yards and no touchdowns, burnishing his reputation as a shutdown cornerback on 33 targets against him. Darrelle who?
The hits just keep on coming by the Bay.
Due to his failure to meet incentives in his contract, he will become an unrestricted free agent. It says in his contract that if he didn't meet the incentives, the Raiders wouldn't designate a franchise or transition player tag on him. Read the article, I can't even write about it anymore.
Looks like things will be back to normal in Oakland, 4-12, 5-11 maybe.
Al Davis you piece of shit.

KC Chiefs < Oakland Raiders; and it's Birthday Tiiiiiiime
It's taken some time, but the Ravens seem to have finally began to impose their will on the measly Chiefs. After an early 41-yard jaunt to pay dirt for Jamaal Charles, not much has gone right for the AFC West champs.
The Chiefs were +9 this year, but today, for some reason (inexperience in the playoffs) they're -2 (2 takeaways, 4 turnovers). Cassel has two interceptions. Charles and McCluster both have lost a fumble. Three of their 8 possessions so far have ended in a turnover and one more ended on downs. They've mustered up only 37 yards in the third quarter.
Meanwhile, the Purple People Eaters have scored on 3 straight possessions, and are knocking on the door step of making it four in a row. 2nd & 4 at the KC four yard line. TD Baltimore. Anquan Boldin - dude's a beast. Wacco Flacco is playing out of his mind too - 245 yards and 2 touchdowns. Only thing that worries me is their running game is nonexistent. Gotta get Ray Rice going downhill if they expect to keep playing past next weekend.
23-7 Baltimore. Might as well get some things done before the Packers and Eagles start, this one's all but over. Baltimore at Pittsburgh next week is going to be some bloodbath. Let's go Ravens!
Silver & Black would have represented the AFC West better than the bumbling, stumbling, fumbling Chiefs. Maybe they got too much of that KC BBQ sauce on their fingers.
Here's a feature I haven't spoken on in a while - one that was a regular in the repertoire last year - my birthday roll call. Happy birthday to Kate Middleton, the fiancée of Prince William of Wales. Her last one as a single woman, I'm sure she's on lockdown. Maybe they'll let her family come to the castle once in a while, just to say hi.
On the sports side of things, Packers great Bart Starr is 77 years old today. He helped lead the Packers to five Super Bowl titles - including being MVP of Super Bowl I and II. The former 17th round pick (200th overall) was one of five HOF'ers in the 1956 NFL Draft. Happy birthday Bart Starr. I'm sure Aaron Rodgers is making you proud like his predecessor Brett Favre didn't. Go Pack!
Time to take off, this game's almost over. Marist leads Manhattan 61-55 with 1:28 left. Both teams are struggling this year, looks like the Jaspers are hurting a little more. They travel to Florida after the game to take on FAU on Tuesday in a rescheduled game (snow wiped out travel the first time they were supposed to fly down).
Bye!

UCF is certainly NOT for real
People were all over UCF's early season success like they were the next coming of present day Butler or back in the day Gonzaga. Guess what? They ain't. Yes, they're 14-1. It's still January folks. Teams fall apart once they cakey early season schedule concludes. It's inevitable. Maybe they'll stay relevant, maybe they won't.
They do have Marcus Jordan (MJ's son). 16.3 points per game. Good for him. Good for them.
Sure, they had some good wins - a 57-54 over then #18 Florida, an 84-78 win over ACC pretender Miami (FL), a 65-59 win over Big East doormat South Florida. So I guess if they only played teams from their home state, they'd be a contender. (They also beat Stetson, Bethune-Cookman, and West Florida)
They had a road game at Houston (9-6, 1-1 CUSA) and came up on the losing side, 76-71. They won the C-USA opener over Marshall, which was a good win (at home). So much for the dream season. A good Southern Miss team is on deck, also on the road. A trip to #21 Memphis looks towards the end of the month. Following that, UAB (12-3) heads to Orlando before they visit the UTEP Miners (13-4). It isn't gonna be easy for the Knights.
So for them to think they've actually accomplished anything is absurd.
Here's the Strength of Schedule for the C-USA teams:
Tulsa 45 - won by 12 at Stanford
Marshall 46 - beat VMI (not really a good win)
UCF 81 - beat Florida, at Miami (FL), at UMASS
Rice 89 - played Texas to a 3 point game in Austin
UAB 112 - beat Arkansas by 5 in Fayetteville
UTEP 144 - beat Michigan and Texas Tech
Memphis 150 - their marquee win is Miami (FL)
East Carolina 153 - they've beaten no one important
Southern Miss 222 - won by 2 at Cal
Houston 265- beat #19 UCF and won at TCU
SMU 326 - irrelevant since beat 3 of their 9 wins are against non-D1 teams
Tulane 345 - beat UNO, SMU, and Rice (='s no one)
When you hear "Conference USA" you think Memphis - and they've got the 7th toughest SoS in conference. C-USA - a conference lacking that big win. The conference RPI is 11th - behind the Mountain West (BYU, San Diego St., UNLV), the Atlantic 10 (Temple, Dayton, Xavier), Colonial (Old Dominion, George Mason) and the Horizon League (Butler, Cleveland St.). You're definitely not a big boy conference.
First off, beat Memphis. You're unproven and unchallenged. Wait until March. They'll probably get into the tournament. And get "upset" by a lower seed.

Best TD Run I've Seen In My Life
He went from second fiddle on a bad Buffalo Bills team to the MANIMAL in Seattle. Awesomeness experienced first hand, I wasn't even sure what was going on, and I was watching the game. It was almost surreal.
Indianapolis Doh'lts
All credit to the New York Jets for pulling off the upset - unless you ask their players, coaches, or fan base. Jets fans were convinced they'd win, partly because of Rex Ryan's personal vendetta against Peyton Manning. It began when the Colts called the timeout with seconds ticking down. Peyton couldn't believe it, and neither could I (there was some logic to my thinking).
Dirty Sanchez did not outplay Peyton Manning. Braylon Edwards won that game. He showed why all his off the field issues (albeit numberous and embarrasing) are static compared to his play in yesterdays 17-16 Wild Card win over the Colts. He's what the Jets have been missing in the past - a go-to guy. Santonio Holmes is good, Super Bowl MVP, but Edwards' athleticism won them that game. He stepped up. Cromartie did it for his 9 kids (4 of whom are under 3). LT showed he still has fresh legs. Folk became a hero - and probably sold a few more of his #2 jerseys. Never has #2 been so substantial in Jets history since the days of K Raul Allegre.
I'm a Raiders fan, as you all probably know, so I'm still basking in their undefeated trudge through the AFC West despite the fact that they didn't get make the playoffs. Al Davis proved he's deadbeat by continuing to make a mockery out of a once proud organization. And I am still in awe of the fact that they let go one of the best coaches to come to town in a while, in Tom Cable. I digress.
Good for you NY Jets. Now you have a tougher road, a four hour trip up I-95, to take on the surging New England Patriots. Impossible? Nope. That's trying to beat the Raiders if you were an AFC West team. Unlikely? Perhaps, but they did split this season, and the Jets did bury the game ball after they were embarrassed 45-3. 45 to 3. Worst loss of the year, by far. Something to learn from but forget at the same time. Will they do it? The impossible two weeks in a row? Rex will tell you that Mark Sanchez would win the vote for President of Mexico if he ran in 2012. He believes. And based on throngs of Jets fans, they'll tell you the same thing.
Oh the joy of playoff football - where the Seahawks can take down the reigning Super Bowl champions in the first round after a pathetic 7-9 regular season; where the Jets can upend the mighty (and always hilarious Peyton Manning). Today, I'll be trapped here in the tin bin watching men's college basketball. Maybe I'll catch some of the Packers/Eagles game.
Gotta go set up for this game, sa-weet.
Later goons!
