They began back in 2001, when they recorded a four-song demo and in 2004, their first album, Hot Fuss, was released. Battleborn is their fourth full studio album (to go along with Hot Fuss (2004), Sam's Town (2006) and Day & Age (2008)) to go along with a B-sides in Sawdust.
Typically, bands release albums every few years, as was the case with The Killers - every two years for the first three albums. They made us wait for this one, which leads me to believe the album is good, but not great. Until I give it a listen, I'll let you be the judge.
I had the opportunity to see them live in Boston at the TD Banknorth Garden back in September of 2009. It was the first time I saw them in concert and it was an absolutely mind-blowing experience. Besides a lighting malfunction at the start of their set, everything was awesome. They played 19 songs and for a good 2+ hours. I was battling a stomach bug, but enjoyed the concert nonetheless.
If you think you've never heard them, I bet you're wrong. "Mr. Brightside," "When We Were Young," "Somebody Told Me," "Human," and "Jenny Was a Friend of Mine" are all songs I'm sure you've heard once or twice if you've ever listened to the radio.Their new single, the aforementioned "Runaways" is also on heavy rotation on airwaves and TV alike.
Once my funds pick up a bit and I can spend the $10 necessary to get the album, I will do just that. Until then, I'll take the bits and pieces I can get.
Enjoy this band. Please.
